The premises of the former Spinelli Barracks are Mannheim’s second largest housing development area. With a froggy-green residential quarter parts of what used to be military premises is transformed into a lively biotope with an ensemble of distinctive buildings.
Shelves establish order, they provide structure and, like type cases, are open to various different contents. The municipally subsidized housing estate in Prinz-Eugen-Park is informed by the basic shape of the storage rack and brings new identity to what used to be military barracks premises.
According to the jury, our winning design for the ideas part "represents an overall contribution that has been worked through in detail and that deals well with the location and the public space. The proposal for the usage concept in component nine are excellent."
