LAK – Lakeside Science & Technology Park
Research amid Nature
Lakeside Science & Technology Park is situated only a couple of hundred meters away from Wörthersee Lake in close vicinity to the Klagenfurt Alpen-Adria University. In a several-stage project, the competition site will be developed into a built ensemble in harmony with nature.
Defining a central middle area, the “Central Park” (also “Green Arterial”), the design connects the main building with public transportation and other uses, creating a sectional densified zone that feels distinctly urban.
Buildings and circulation pathways blend in naturally with the particularly scenic landscape. There is a seamless transition from the new Lakeside 02 premises to the adjoining natural spaces. Circular shapes inform the outward appearance of the buildings and are continued inside. The flat ring structure of the buildings is a stylized reflection of the surrounding landscape while warranting optimum flexibility and maximum utilization of the available floor space.
Planning proceeds in a way that takes care to make each sub-development fully functional in itself, as a “micro campus”, within the emergent campus as a whole.
