Brave New Working World

An office like a city inside a city. Conceived as a colorful microcosm, the 4,500 square-meter offices of the Pharma Company provide a varied and variable floor space, which also reflects diversity as a corporate philosophy. Employees and visitors alike are invited here to discover for themselves the working world and, like in an urban environment, find their favorite spots which cater to their current mood and requirements. The tenant finish project is informed by a workplace concept that is novel for the company. Based on the concept of Activity Based Working, the available floor space is laid out as a multi-space office: combining several rental units, it is structured into a central circulation route and six wings adjoining to it—from heavily frequented to more secluded quieter areas. Write-on walls, advertising columns, and a Speakers’ Corner situated along that central axis encourage active and intense information exchange. The different wings are grouped in different thematic fields defined and developed—with support from M.O.O.C.O.N—by a team of employees. The result: a cozy library, a stylish bar, a record store, or a meditative Zen garden. Spaces which in their variegation speak to the diversity of the people working here. Regular work stations are distributed across the entire floor space and organized in cluster-like smaller units. To complement these uniformly equipped standardized work stations, the office area is punctuated with a number of temporary workspaces, like so-called Focus Boxes, meeting spaces, and lounges. The latter cut through the plain black-and-whiteness of the standard workspaces with bright resplendent colors whose radiance also laps into the temporary workspaces and meeting areas. The use of wood and high-quality materials reflect the intended long durability and feel of homey comfort. What completes the micro-urbanistic office concept is the green lounge and break area of the cafeteria which may be read as a recreational zone like an inner-city park.
